The “To Be Read” List

Did you know it was World Book Day today?

I keep a catalogue at LibraryThing.com and these are my books marked “TBR”. I want to have read at least 50% of these by the end of the year:

Abu-Jaber, Diana – Origin: A Novel
Adams, Douglas – The Salmon of Doubt (started in 2005 and I don’t remember finishing)
Austen, Jane – Emma, Mansfield Park (added April 5, 2011)
Barrett, Andrea – Voyage of the Narwhal: A Novel (started in 2007 and never finished)
Beddor, Frank – ArchEnemy: The Looking Glass Wars #3
Bryson, Bill – The Mother Tongue, A Short History of Nearly Everything
Cervantes, Miguel – Don Quixote
Childers, Erskine – Common Sense About the Arab World
Deloria, Jr. Vine – Custer Died for Your Sins: An Indian Manifesto
Frey, James – A Million Little Pieces
Fry, Stephen – The Ode Less Travelled: Unlocking the Poet Within, Stars’ Tennis Balls (I’ve read all his other books, except for these two).
Gerber, Michael – Barry Trotter and the Unauthorized Parody
Gray, John – Straw Dogs: Thoughts on Humans and Other Animals (started in 2004 and never finished)
Hart, J.V. – Capt. Hook: The Adventures of a Notorious Youth
Hawking, Stephen – A Brief History of Time (I have the illustrated version. Ooooooh!)
Hockensmith, Steve – Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dreadfully Ever After (added March 14th)
Hornby, Nick – How To Be Good (from my High Fiedlity days)
Hoving, Thomas – Making the Mummies Dance: Inside the Metropolitain Museum of Art
King, Stephen – Dreamcatcher, Black House, The Tommyknockers (I might not have all of these any more) I am officially never reading these, ever. April 2011
Larsson, Stieg – The Girl Who Played with Fire (took me over a year to read the first one, this one should be no different, yes?)
Loewen, James W. – Sundown Towns
Maguire, Gregory – Mirror Mirror, Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, Wicked (tried all of these in 2007 and failed on all accounts)
McCourt, Frank – Angela’s Ashes: A Memoir
O’doherty, Brian – Museums in Crisis
Pearson, Ridley – Peter and the Starcatchers
Plath, Sylvia – The Bell Jar
Rabkin, William – A Fatal Frame of Mind, Psych: Mind-Altering Murder(both added March 14th)
Rand, Ayn – The Fountainhead, Atlas Shrugged (started one or the other in the early 2000s and failed)
Rogan, Eugene – The Arabs: A History (added March 14th)
Shriver, Lionel – We Need to Talk About Kevin
Steinbeck, John – East of Eden
Tolstoy, Leo – Anna Karenina (don’t know if I still have this)
Townsend, Sue – Adrian Mole: The Cappuccino Years
Waugh, Evelyn – Vile Bodies
Wodehouse, P.G. – Right Ho, Jeeves, How Right You Are, Jeeves (may have read one or the other but have forgotten)
Wurtzel, Elizabeth – Prozac Nation

Listing 41 47 44 titles means I’ll have to read at least 20.5 23.5 22 of them – assuming I’m not adding to the list. Also, not a “happy” list it appears. You really do need to space out your “downer” books otherwise you’ll go crazy.

TALLY: 5/44
